The two most common types of cancer in women are breast cancer and cervical cancer. Early detection of these two types of cancer is one of the most important tasks in our practice. The cancer smear test (PAP test), vaginal palpation, secretion analysis, vaginal and, if necessary, abdominal ultrasound of the lower abdomen, as well as breast palpation (with possible referral for mammography), form the basis of every gynecological examination.
This smear test is used for the early detection of cervical cancer. For this purpose, the cervix is first positioned with a speculum, and then examination material is taken from the surface of the cervix and from the cervical canal. The examination material is analyzed in the laboratory within 3-4 weeks and classified into five groups (PAP I-PAP V). You will be informed by us if the cancer smear test shows any abnormalities or if therapy or further clarification is required. In certain PAP findings, an additional HPV diagnosis may be useful.
Human papillomaviruses (HPV) are among the most common sexually transmitted infections in the genital area. Certain HPV types play a crucial role in the development of cervical cancer and other genital cancers; other types can cause genital warts, burning sensations, or intermenstrual bleeding. Many adults become infected with HPV during their lifetime – however, in most cases, the infection has no consequences, as the immune system can successfully fight it. The HPV test is an additional preventive examination and is currently a private service. It is recommended for all women from the age of 30 every three years and costs €100.
